2007 – 2009
Sample Theatre was an independent, anarchic, and fringe theatre company based in Melbourne (Victoria, Australia) from late 2006 to Late 2009.
Based out of the inner-city warehouse of writer/performer/director Tobias Manderson-Galvin – and his sister Kerith Manderson-Galvin – the company presented work around Australia in collaboration with innovative and experimental Melbourne-based artists, musicians, and a bunch of Tobias and Kerith’s mates. The company presented work with and for other notable companies including Black Lung Theatre and Whaling Firm, The Barons of Tang, Sisters Grimm, South Australian Tourism Authority, and appeared multiple times at Crack Theatre Festival.
Sample Theatre incubated and presented unique performance projects that exceeded the common expectation of what one could do in the theatre in Australia. Sample Theatre was a nimble company, working on a small and semi-national scale, creating experimental performance work, mostly for the hell of it, sometimes to give hell, and always with politics and entertainment at heart. Through its productions, Sample Theatre troubled the experience of existing theatregoers and rallied new audiences from a generation disconnected from the stage.
